Individual Therapy

Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process in which clients work one-on-one with a therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors. Individuals may wish to work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and make changes in important relationships. Our therapists have a wide range of specialties and work with individual clients on a broad range of issues such as:

Couple & Relationship Therapy

Couples therapy, or sometimes called couples counseling, is a process in which partners in a relationship come together with a therapist to enhance the functioning of the relationship. Many couples find themselves stuck in negative communication patterns, or perhaps feel they have “grown apart” and are having difficulty getting and staying connected emotionally. Often couples seek therapy because they are unable to resolve and repair conflict effectively. Some seek help for relationship injuries such as infidelity or other betrayals. In couples therapy, a trained therapist will assist the couple in identifying patterns of relating, connecting, and disconnecting; discussing transitions and setting expectations; setting limits and boundaries; resolving conflict; and deepening connection.

Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on improving sexual functioning and satisfaction. Sex therapy can help with low or absent sexual desire, painful sex, orgasm difficulties, erectile difficulties, or history or sexual trauma or abuse. Sometimes life transitions such as marriage, divorce, having a baby, menopause, illness, infidelity, and grief/loss also can affect sexuality. Having support and guidance as well as a safe place to discuss these sensitive issues can help people find greater pleasure and satisfaction in their sexual experiences. Sex therapy is available individually or for people in relationships. Sex therapy is primarily talk therapy, though treatment often will be supplemented with at-home behavioral exercises, discussion, and relevant reading.

Eating Disorder Therapy

(ED)

Eating Disorder therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on improving our relationship with food, body image, and self esteem. Eating Disorder therapy can help with many food- related behaviors; such as, restricting, binging and purging, overeating, emotional eating, orthorexia, and other forms of disordered eating. Many things can impact our relationship with food and our bodies across the life span which can create a great deal of shame and discomfort. Reaching out for help and getting specialized support can be a life saving measure when it comes to the treatment of eating disorders. Eating disorder therapy is primarily talk therapy where homework and behavioral exercises, reading, and discussion are assigned for work outside of the session. In addition, a team approach to ED treatment is most effective, which may involve other appointments outside of talk therapy.

Group therapy is a type of therapy where people come together with the help of a trained therapist to support and understand the experience of others, often related to a common topic or challenge. Human beings have a deep longing to be seen and understood. Group therapy is an effective therapeutic modality in which this connection can happen quickly and powerfully. There are different types of groups. Interpersonal process groups help individuals learn how they come across to other people by creating a safe space to give and receive feedback. With support of the group, participants can focus on changing problematic patterns in interpersonal relationships. Support groups allow people with a similar experience or issue to provide understanding and empathy, and to assist with problem solving. Psychoeducational groups provide a forum for learning specific emotional coping and relationship skills. Participants share their experiences applying new skills and receive feedback, support, and assistance with accountability

Yoga Informed Therapy

Therapeutic yoga services are “bottom-up” or body-based approaches to healing. A great deal of research demonstrates the benefit of adding body- based awareness of our inner experiences in order to fully heal. Yoga services are delivered individually or in group, and they often consist of movement (yoga asanas) and reflection, mindful meditation, and focus on inward experiences in our bodies. Therapeutic yoga services help to explore our inner world gently and compassionately to access information stored in our bodies. In addition, body-based interventions can help give us additional avenues for coping and caring for ourselves.

Whole Heart Psychotherapy is an incredible practice of knowledgeable, compassionate, and ethical clinicians. As a therapist myself, it is important to establish relationships with other groups for networking, consultation, and collaborative purposes. I truly appreciate that I can trust the clinicians of Whole Heart to provide effective treatment to clients that I refer to their services. I also am grateful for the professional consultation and collaboration that is provided when working with shared cases or when seeking feedback. Whole Heart and its staff are always on my list of providers for outside referrals.
