Jane Levings, MS, NCC - Provider at WholeHeart Psychotherapy

Hi, I’m Jane. I believe the greatest freedom is found in a life lived on-mission. The first questions I ask in session are “What does it mean to live courageously?” and “What is your mission?” Each client has unique answers, and yours will deepen as you explore them.

When you come in my office, you are the expert in your own life and we learn together where you need to go. In each session you’ll brainstorm concrete next action steps for change, while also exploring the deep roots of why you’ve been at an impasse.

I work with clients who are preparing to launch (or relaunch!) lives of purpose and connection. Many of my clients are teens and young adults who are depressed, anxious, dependent, and disconnected. I work with them to identify their core values and long-term goals, explore vocational interests, learn skills to manage big emotions in the moment, and dig deep to figure out what’s keeping them stuck. I also work with the parents of these young people in crisis, and with individuals in mid-life who are going through life transitions such as divorce, addiction recovery, or job loss to help them regain a sense of direction and worth.

My clients say I have a unique joy that gives them hope.  I’m a free spirit and a follower of Christ. I am both an open-minded artist and a practical thinker. I have been through a lot in my life, so it’s pretty hard to surprise me. At client’s request, I use narrative and expressive methods in my sessions, as well as dialectical behavioral therapy and person-centered approaches.  Prior to joining private practice, I trained in a substance use treatment center, where I learned that people, even the most wounded, are capable of change, and a therapeutic relationship can be a powerful tool to help them begin—and sustain–the journey.

I hold an MS in counseling from Mercer University and am under the supervision of Dr. Paul Smith, PhD, LPC. Prior to becoming a counselor, I taught creative writing & hold an MFA from the University of Virginia in that field. I am also a Positive Discipline parent educator, helping parents empower their children and build warm, firm relationships with them. I am an associate member of the Independent Educational Consultant Association and work with clients to find unique therapeutic schools and programs in the Atlanta area and residential treatment in the Southeast.

If you’re ready (or almost ready!) to make purposeful changes in your life or in your family’s life, please reach out.

When not working, Jane enjoys spending time outside with friends and family, running, making art, and being a part of her church community.

Jane Levings, MS, NCC

Jane holds a Masters in Counseling from Mercer University and she is to receive her LAPC designation in Summer 2023. Jane works with adolescents and adults of all ages, specializing in personal development, life transitions, addiction, mood disorders, and parenting issues.

With Jane, you will identify the core values and attributes that define who you are and make the changes necessary to live a life aligned with the values of who you really are and who you want to become. Whether you are a teenager growing into independence, or an adult entering a new season of life, Jane’s goal is to help you understand your difficult feelings, limit behaviors you may have been using to escape those feelings and develop healthy habits and relationships so that you can live a fruitful, meaningful, well-managed life.

Jane works from an existential theoretical framework to help clients identify their purpose and uses the concrete tools of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help them take action in their lives. She also incorporates creative modalities such as writing and visual arts into her practice, as clients desire.

Prior to WholeHeart, Jane served as an intern at the Summit Wellness Center, an intensive outpatient substance use disorder recovery program. At Summit, Jane worked with clients one-on-one and led groups in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Creativity and Coping, and Healthy Relationships. Jane’s work in drug and alcohol addiction has expanded into an interest in social media and gaming overuse, as well. She works with clients to help them improve executive functioning and manage distractions.

Jane has a deep interest in art as therapy, as well. She has volunteered in the horticultural therapy program at Skyland Trail, taught creative writing courses at several colleges and is a trained portrait painter. She finds that expressive arts techniques such as writing and painting can often bring clients to new discoveries about themselves that were inaccessible through talk therapy alone.

Jane is a graduate of Pace Academy, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Virginia, where she earned her MFA in Creative Writing. She holds a masters in Counseling from Mercer University. In July, Jane will become an associate independent educational consultant in order to better help her adolescent clients and their parents find the right school fit. The parent of two teenagers, Jane understands the challenges and opportunities of raising children in intown Atlanta, and has helped her own children navigate several successful school transitions. Walking beside other parents and teens as they move toward independence is one of her greatest joys.

Whole Heart Psychotherapy is an incredible practice of knowledgeable, compassionate, and ethical clinicians. As a therapist myself, it is important to establish relationships with other groups for networking, consultation, and collaborative purposes. I truly appreciate that I can trust the clinicians of Whole Heart to provide effective treatment to clients that I refer to their services. I also am grateful for the professional consultation and collaboration that is provided when working with shared cases or when seeking feedback. Whole Heart and its staff are always on my list of providers for outside referrals.

As a therapist, I feel very fortunate to have WholeHeart Psychotherapy as a resource. I have never once hesitated to refer to the practice, and have heard nothing but positive feedback from those I have referred. I have personally participated in professional consultation and DBT groups at Wholeheart over the the years, and can't speak highly enough of the experience.
